Rankings: Seedrs in the FinTech50 List

The annual FinTech50 List of European financial technolgy firms was unveiled Tuesday, CNBC reports.

Chosen from a long-list of over 1,500 companies across Europe, up from 1,200 last year, the Fintech50 2017 List, founding director, Julie Lakepointed out

features 24 businesses that are new.

Announced at a ceremony in the City of London, the list is compiled in-house and then adjudicated on by a 63-strong judging panel.

Fintechs working with banks is a powerful collaboration trend, but there is also a new generation of innovators going direct to the consumer in areas such as insurance and financial management, Lake added.

Seedrs is the only crowdfunding company included in the list.

FintechCity mentioned that the London-based online investment firm reported a record breaking 2016, which saw £85 million invested in 159 different deals and 45,000 individual investments made from 65 different countries. FinTech FreeAgent, which raised £1.2 million Seedrs in 2015, IPOed on LSE’s AIM. Since its launch in 2012, Seedrs has raised £190 million for 450 listed investment opportunities.

Earlier this year, the leading equity crowdfunding platform announced the launch of a beta secondary market which went live on the 6th of June.

According to Thomas Davies, Seedrs Chief Investment Officer, the market launched with 111 share lots in over 80 different businesses, Crowdfund Insider reports.
