There are 8 crowdfunding platforms in the list of the 250 most promising private companies applying a mix of software and technology to transform the financial services industry compiled by the software powerhouse CB Insights.

METHODOLOGY. Companies were selected by CB Insights’ Intelligence Unit from a pool of nearly 4,000 applicants and nominees based on several factors, including data submitted by the companies, business model and momentum in the market, and the company’s Mosaic Score, CB Insights’ proprietary algorithm that measures the overall health and growth potential of private companies.

THE NEW ATLAS. Fifty percent of them are from the Silicon Valley’s cluster (i.e. Angel List, CircleUP, Indiegogo, and GoFundMe) whilst Qingsongchou is the leading player in China. Three are the marketplaces developed within a university environment: the machine-learning based CircleUP (Stanford University) in the US and the leading generalist equity crowdfunding platforms in the UK, Crowdcube (Exeter University) and Seedrs (Oxford University), which moreover confirms to be the fastest growing market in Europe for this form of entrepreneurial finance. Based in the New York, where Indiegogo’s co-founder Slava Roubin has recently launched a brand-new fund targeting social enterpreneurs, Kickstarter continue to serve the creative community worldwide.
